Role synopsis
Due to continuing growth in the region, PD&MS Group are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join the team based in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Candidates should have previous offshore experience in the oil and gas industry and have a proven background in Structural design engineering. Additionally, experience of drilling facilities and equipment along with offshore survey experience is essential.
Key Responsibilities
• Direction and supervision of Engineers and Designers.
• Identification of scope of work required to undertake a project / job. Estimation of deliverables.
• Input to project plans and schedules.
• Immediate identification to Lead Engineer of any issue that has the potential to cause change or growth to any area of the project or study, in comparison to the original design intent / deliverables required.
• Production of cost effective engineering solutions that are fit for purpose, safe and add value.
• Ensuring operational and maintenance issues are addressed in the design. Seeking input from operations and maintenance personnel.
• Surveys, both onshore and offshore, to determine information to allow execution of workscopes.
• Monitoring progress of work and achieving completion within the agreed schedule and budget. Reporting progress as per approved systems and procedures.
• Production and checking of documents and engineering design deliverables created by own discipline.
• Review of documents circulated by other disciplines for IDC or comment.
• Review of Supplier / Vendor documents.
• Communication with other disciplines on design and engineering issues.
• Checking of requisitions for purchase of engineered items and services.
• Attendance at meetings called by Project Manager / Engineer, e.g. kick-off meeting, progress meeting.
• Attendance at Design Reviews, HAZOPs, Constructability Assessments etc.
• Representation of PD&MS with Clients, Suppliers / Vendors and Certifying Authorities in a professional manner.
• Remain up to date with technical developments, client, national and international standards and legislative requirements related to the position.
• Ensure compliance with applicable Industry Codes and Standards, HSE Alerts, Statutory Instruments, Client and PD&MS Specifications and Legislative Requirements and establishing order of precedence on a project-by-project basis.
• Assurance of competence of engineering personnel under Senior Engineer control. Identification of personnel shortfalls and submissions of proposal to Department Head / Country Manager for solutions such as training, coaching or other measures.
• Support the training and development of Graduate Engineers and assistance to Design Team Leader for training and development of Trainee Designers.
• Ensure all supervised personnel are aware of continuous improvement issues of new technology.
• Assist with the development of training plans for direct report Azeri National resources and regular monitoring of performance against the training plan.
Essential qualifications and experience
• BSc or equivalent in relevant Engineering discipline essential
• Chartered Engineer status preferred
• Thorough knowledge of drilling rig equipment and systems essential
• Demonstrable understanding of drilling operations and maintenance essential
• Significant demonstrable experience in Detailed Design Engineering and Engineering Checking
• Detailed understanding of all Engineering disciplines
• Through knowledge and understanding of relevant Oil & Gas Industry Codes and Standards
• Highly competent in the use of MS Office applications essential
• Survival BOSIET / FOET with CA-EBS essential
• Exposure to people management essential
• Excellent written and spoken English essential
2. Senior Structural Designer

Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Lead Engineer the successful candidate will be required undertake the following tasks:
• Represent PD&MS with Clients, Suppliers / Vendors and Certifying Authorities in a professional manner.
• Identification of design scope of work required to undertake a project/job. Estimation of deliverables time required to execute the scope of work.
• Early identification to the Lead Designer of areas of concern during the course of any project or study with necessary corrective action identified.
• Ensure operational and maintenance issues are addressed in the design. Seeking input from operations and maintenance personnel.
• Surveys, both onshore and offshore, to determine information to allow execution of workscopes.
• Checking of department design deliverables.
• Responsible for ensuring that all supervised personnel are aware of continuous improvement issues and new technology.
• Remain up to date and knowledgeable with technical developments, client, national and international standards and legislative requirements related to the position.
• During surveys/site visits communication with Operations and Maintenance personnel to ensure all requirements are fulfilled and determine any opportunities where PD&MS can provide engineering solutions to existing problems or for improving existing methods.
• Production of cost effective design solutions that are fit for purpose, safe and add value to both PD&MS and the Client and motivation of discipline personnel to do similarly.
• Awareness and understanding of the business drivers within the PD&MS / Client relationship and how these can be influenced by innovative designs and minimum cost solutions.
• Performance of engineering tasks and activities, in accordance with PD&MS QA, HS & E Policies.
• Ensuring compliance with applicable Industry Codes and Standards, HSE Alerts, Statutory Instruments, Client Specifications and Legislative Requirements and establishing order of precedence on a project-by-project basis.
• Demonstration of safe approach in design and working practises.
• Encouragement of attention to safety.
• Responsible for ensuring professional development is maintained and identified competency requirements are undertaken in a timely manner.
• Adherence to the Company Integrated Management System.
• Compliance with quality assurance, health and safety and environmental policies.
• Demonstrate and promote PD&MS QHSE principles.
• Ensure unsafe activities are challenged.
• Adherence to the requirements of the best practice standards recommendations and processes in the undertaking of duties, in particular, risk assessment and control, reliability and failure prevention necessary to ensure the safe design, equipment and systems.
Essential qualifications and experience
• HND in relevant engineering discipline preferred

• Good understanding of drilling operations and maintenance activities essential

• Previous demonstrable experience in detailed design
